Capturing Disney Memories

By Dawn Damalas Meehan |

I have many, many favorite Disney memories. Disney World is such a magical place that you can’t help but acquire some amazing memories that will last a lifetime. I’m so happy that many of those memories were recorded. Although, I could live without the permanent reminder that I said, “Look, there’s Meg!” a dozen times in a row. I have no idea why I was so excited to see Meg from Hercules. I was probably hoping that Hercules was nearby.

I think my absolute favorite Disney memory is walking into the park for the first time with my kids. The looks of absolute awe on their faces as they took it all in was priceless. It is so cool seeing things through a child’s eyes.

Some other great Disney memories are the time Clayton “flew” around the park while flapping his ears with his hands because he was Dumbo. And then there’s the time I learned that I can no longer tolerate rides that go in circles. Thank you Mad Tea Party. There’s the time, after seven days of non-stop park-hopping with six kids, that I lost it and started yelling at the stupid people who feel the need to stop dead in their tracks in the middle of a walkway. There’s the memory of the time Savannah won a trip to Disney World and was dressed like Cinderella and put on the stage in front of the castle in the Magic Kingdom. Oh and let’s not forget about the time I convinced Savannah she would enjoy going on the Tower of Terror only to have her break down in hysterics (that lasted for hours, I might add) when she got off the ride.

And most recently, there was the time my parent took my me and my kids to the Magic Kingdom. We had such a fun day with Yia Yia and Papa. That was the day that Brooklyn got to meet her favorite princess.

We are going to Disney World in 2 months and a Sony HandiCam would be great to record our trip! I have never been and I can’t wait to walk into Magic Kingdom with my 2 kids and husband!

  2. TamraK says:

The first (only) time we went to Disneyworld, a parade went by about 5 minutes after we came through the gate. The kids were so excited. That may have been the best moment of the whole vacation.

One of my favorite family memories was going to Disneyland on my anniversary, wearing an anniversary pin, and getting congratulated by all of the Disney cast…. Another was spying on my husband and one year old as they cleaned the backyard this weekend and as I’m looking, I see my baby gase at his daddy in wonder screaming and pointing at the stink bug he held. It was so sweet to see them bonding over a bug…. Such boys.

My not so favorite Disney memory is losing my son for aabout 30 terrifying mintues. The Disney folks were convinced he was off riding anything I had told him he couldn’t ride. But I knew him better than that. Finally found him huddled in a corner just outside the Tiki Room hoping someone would notice him and ask what was wrong. The rest of the trip was great!

My favorite Disney memory is when there on a family trip and my then-6 year old brother asked the waiter at the restaurant for more water because he “was a heavy drinker”.

May 2011 we took the kids on a trip to Disneyland. Nothing like breaking them in on a vacation than taking them all the way across the US. Figured we might as well make it worthwhile as after this we would probably not want to do it again. Well the flights were great thanks to some Dramamine knocking them out for the most part and Disney was a success. I will NEVER forget my daughters reaction when she met “Her Tinkerbell” for the first time. I swear her jaw hit the ground and luckily the Photopass person captured it for us. Unfortunately after a fire the kids lost all their souvenirs so we are off to the Magical Place for A Disney Christmas this year….after all we have to replace our Mickey Ears :)

My favorite family memory so far is last summer when my husband and I took all 3 kids to the beach. It was wonderful. We planned to go this year, but my daughter became ill and spent almost 50 days in the hospital and had 5 brain surgeries. We are hoping that her health is well enough to go next year. Each minute is precious, we thought we were going to lose her and I want to capture every second.

When my twin girls were 3 and they stood in front of Cinderella’s castle in DisneyWorld, staring up in amazement, and Hailey turns to her sister and asks, “which one do you think is her bedroom?”, to which Ashley replied,”the one with the light on!”, and Hailey excitedly looked back at her sister, “that’s what I was thinking too!” And thats what I love about the place, the magic, and how they so believe in it

  9. Janice Croze says:

Any moment spent at Disney with my kids is my favorite family moment.

  10. @JustHeather says:

My favorite Disney memory was captured on film by the magical Tower of Terror camera. My entire family – sisters, brother, Dad, the hubby – all turning to watch our daughter’s freakout.

  11. Meghan says:

I have many fond Disney memories from throughout my life, but my favorite, without a doubt, would have to be walking in the gates with my boys for the first time last year. They’d never been as “big” kids and watching their reactions at seeing everything for the first time was so much fun.

  12. AmandaL. says:

My favorite memory is going to Disney World with our grandchildren! Nothing beats seeing magic through their eyes!!! It was so great we’re going to bring them again in February!

  13. Erin says:

Our family road trip from WI to CA is a trip I’ll never forget. My kids were newly 5 and 23 months at the time. It was a crazy trip but we were able to see the country and made priceless memories :)

  14. Danielle Smith says:

It is so hard for me to come up with just ONE favorite memory – we create new and extraordinary memories each and every time we go to Disney. I would have to say one of my favorites is from our most recent trip: riding Splash Mountain 3 times in a row as a family…. I laughed the entire time.

  15. laurenjimeson says:

I love spending time at Disney! I think my favorite moment was seeing my daughter’s face as she met Mickey and Minnie for the first time. Truly priceless.

  16. Katie says:

My son’s too young to enjoy a trip to Disney (we live near Disneyland), but a few years ago, I got to go with my cousins when they were 4 and 2 and the look of wonder and awe really is amazing. It makes me even more excited to take my kid(s) someday!

  17. Teri says:

Favorite Disney memories are watching my daughter ride her first roller coaster, and having breakfast with Minnie.

  18. @JustHeather says:

You know, I’ve never seen Meg at the parks. I think I’d be pretty excited too!
