Quotes to Get You Through Divorce, a Break-Up or Heartbreak

hb25When the curtains fall on a relationship, whether it happened with a grand swoop that leaves the whole audience stunned or the red velvet was pulled to an achingly slow close, what happens next is most important.

Oh, sure, you might come out for an encore and do a little smiley song and dance that everything is just fine. And the house lights might go up to reveal you, splayed out on stage, acting dead or paralyzed or wailing uncontrollably. But after that, when you’ve gathered yourself, hung up the costume, washed off the stage makeup and are sitting alone staring at yourself under the bright dressing-room lights — that moment can be the most raw, real, vulnerable, empowering, sad and hopeful time.

Feel that. See it. Own it. After the drama, once your leading role in that relationship is really over, you can begin to script a whole new life (or at least adventure, or hell, maybe a comedy) for yourself. And if you’re having trouble coming up with the words, worry not.

Read what others — all women — have said, preached and written about divorce, heartbreak, losing a relationship with someone else and honoring that bare face you see in the backstage mirror.

Perhaps some of these quotes will be perfect to post on that mirror with a sticky note, will help you feel less alone or broken, or will be just enough inspiration for you to get back out on stage — maybe for a brilliant one-woman show.
