Can I opt my kids out of homework?

My kids start school this week, and there is something big that I want to broach with their teachers: opting out of homework.  I’m not a fan of homework (as I will explain below), but I am still working up my nerve to actually do something about it.


What are your thoughts about homework in the early grades? Have you ever considered opting your kids out?  What do you think a teacher’s response would be to such a request?
