Capturing Photos with Backlighting! (VIDEO and PHOTOS to Walk You Through It!)

One of my favorite parts of photography is capturing photos with backlighting!  I go CRAZY when I come across bright windows, sheer curtains, or the summer afternoon sun.  In essence, backlighting is any time your photo has a strong light source behind your subject.  With my work, I never use strobes, umbrellas or lights to get this effect.  I take advantage of bright windows and the sun (or even clouds) because I LOVE to keep it simple!

If your photos feel flat, backlighting will enhance their dreaminess, drama and intensity!  Do you need to be a professional photographer or have a fancy camera to get magical results?  Not at all!  In fact, watch this episode from my Disney Junior short series, Capture Your Story with Me Ra Koh!  I’ll walk you through it, so that you can try capturing photos with backlighting too!  (Photos with backlighting are especially gorgeous when turned into BW!)

I met a mom on the 4th of July who said she saw this episode and decided to try it at home with her three year old daughter!  OMG, LOOK AT WHAT SHE CAPTURED!!!  I asked her if I could share it with you as proof that newbies can get beautiful results too!

Please feel free to join this little one’s mama and many others by posting your backlighting photos on my FB page!  I LOVE to see the results my viewers capture and give you comments and feedback!
