Did you know that there is an official Disney fan club for die-hard Disney geeks? (And I use the word geek with the greatest affection. And self-identification.)
D23 was founded four years ago, and have grown in popularity and membership ever since. Developed as a way to give Disney fans an inside scoop, D23 members receive a host of special promotions throughout the year from tickets to Disney shows on Broadway to shopping and dining experiences around the country. They also get to experience one-of-a-kind experiences from tours of the Walt Disney Studios Lot and the Walt Disney Archives to signature holiday events at Walt Disney World.
My kids and I got the chance to attend one of D23‘s holiday events: a gingerbread-house decorating lunch at Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen at Downtown Disney. We had a blast. Chef Darrin Finkel came out to give us instructions on the construction of our house, and then each family got to do their own thing. My kids took a liberal “eat one, decorate one” approach to the candy. They also weren’t above shooting the frosting straight into their mouths.
We got to lunch on some of the restaurant’s best fare, and best yet . . . we didn’t have to clean up! We also had a surprise visit from Santa, who gifted each person with a keepsake Mickey and Minnie ornament.
I have to say, the D23 members were a very fun group, and I’m excited to attend more D23 events in the future. You can learn more about D23 here . . . there are different levels of annual membership and it’s surprisingly reasonable. Check back next month as I will be offering a coupon code for a discounted membership!
