Dance Fever: The Xbox Makes Me Shake My BootyCecily Kellogg
It has literally changed our lives and rearranged our house. See, we had two TVs both very old tube TVs that were big and clunky and took up a ton of space. This didn’t bother us much, until I tried to hook up the Xbox 360 downstairs and I didn’t have a remote for our ten year old TV anymore (we just used the cable remote) so I couldn’t switch the input. So we used it upstairs, but… that TV is fifteen years old and we couldn’t read ANY of the instructions that the games gave us. Seriously.
So, we bit the bullet, and headed off to get a new TV. We went to a big box store, and I made a beeline for the deals: the items that are “open without box” where we got a $700 TV for $270. Then we came home and rearranged our entire home to accommodate our new TV (which led to a massive clean and organize effort on my part). Then we installed the Xbox 360 + Kinect properly, and BOOM. We play and play and play. Like, we cannot STOP playing. Hence the OW; my muscles are full of that good sore that you get from working out.
I have been trying to stop working each day when my daughter gets home from school so we can talk and cuddle and read, but we’ve been finding ourselves drawn instead to playing games. We bowl, we throw darts, we jump that raft up and down, but most of all?
My daughter and I have been playing the games for more than an hour each day, and the best thing is how it fits into my overall goal of being more healthy. Yesterday I ran errands and for the first time in forever didn’t mind at all that I had to race back to the produce section because I forgot fresh spinach; my laziness is melting away (I’m not sure if that makes sense to you, but it does to me). Best of all, I don’t have to worry about getting out of the house to do it; I’ve found myself doing a dance or three by myself when I hit that mid-afternoon work slump; instead of caffeine, dancing boosts my energy.
Overall, it’s awesome.
But this just scratches the surface of how it’s changing our home. Next time I’m going to tell you about streaming Netflix and Hulu and OMG THE COOLEST THING EVER, Smartglass. I’ll admit it: I’m in love with the Xbox 360. Seriously.
