DISH TV Everywhere Saves Our Vacation!

Dish Receiver

My home entertainment system can travel with me as long as I have my tablet or smartphone!

A couple of months ago, my wife Lissa and I went on vacation to the beach. We spent a week on the upper edges of the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and we had an absolute blast, watching the wild horses, touring the Wright Brother’s Park and museum, and of course, taking long walks along the beach at sunset.

Being night people, we did not get up in time to see any sunrises!

The trip was wonderful with one small exception. The house we were in had cable instead of satellite, and the number of channels was somewhat limited. Yeah, I know, who watches TV when you’re at the beach?

Well let’s see, here’s:

Sports fanatics.

Reality TV addicts.

Home renovation show junkies.

Foodies.

And that’s just me. Lissa has her own universe of programs she watches.

So we were very happy to use the TV Everywhere features from DISH to keep up with our TV habits. There are two pieces that work together for us to make sure we don’t miss anything while we are on vacation. The Slingbox feature allows us to watch live TV from DISH wherever we are, regardless of what cable or satellite system we’re stuck with. As long as we have a good internet connection, we can stream live content from DISH directly to our smart phones, computers or tablets. We can also stream content from our DVR, so if a spectacular sunset makes Lissa miss the latest Duck Dynasty, she can catch up right away.

Even better, as far as I’m concerned, is the remote control functions.

As a man, I own the remote. That’s just the way it is. When I leave home, I miss my remote. I miss the control it gives me over my home entertainment experience.

If I want to mute, I mute. If I want to change the channels, I change them. If I want to rearrange the favorites list on the menu, I…check with Lissa to make sure she doesn’t mind me messing with the menus.

But I own the remote.

I think it’s exaggeration when Lissa says I got through ‘remote withdrawal’ when we go on vacation. I’m not addicted to my remote; I can put it down anytime I want to.

But with DISH, I don’t have to put it down.

Part of TV Everywhere is the Remote Access app that you can download to your phone or your tablet. The app allows you to control your DISH receiver and DVR, no matter where you are. I can add programs to the record list, erase recorded programs after watching them, look ahead using the guide to see if there are any programs I want to add to the record list, and even change the channel remotely, a feature that I’ve used to have some fun with my son from time to time.

Now I’m not saying you should spend all of your vacation time watching TV that you could watch from home; that would be a waste of time and money.

But, if the weather isn’t cooperating, or there’s that special show you just can’t miss, DISH has it covered with Remote Access and TV Everywhere.

A big thanks to DISH for sponsoring this campaign. Click here to see more of the discussion.
