Documenting: Disney Story-styleJohn Cave Osborne
My mom once told me that stories happen to people who can tell them. Which gave me pause, because even way back then, I had the propensity to spin the yarn. Which meant I was both excited and concerned. After all, stories were a good thing. But living an episodic life can also be kinda tiring.
Fast forward a couple decades and I’ve come to appreciate double entendre inside my mom’s old saying. And, of course, I’ve come to appreciate something else. Going from carefree bachelor to father of four in just 13 months thanks to marrying a single mom, then quickly conceiving triplets is — you know — quite a story, right?
Which is why I figured I’d better start documenting everything.
But now that we’ve added another little person to the mix, I have even less time than I used to in which to tell all these stories that are continuously happening to my family and me. Which is why I’m always looking for quick, effective ways to document what’s going on.
And given that four of our five children are still pretty young, it’s not like I ever have a free hand to haul around a bunch of equipment like I used to. Which means that quick, effective way better be efficient, too.
Which is one reason why I’m such a big fan of Disney’s new Story app. Disney Story allows you to easily take the images and videos you’d ordinarily capture on your phone, and turn them into something special.
Example: see the header pic I used for this post? It’s one of my favorite images of all times. No. The quality isn’t so good. And, yes. The lighting sucks. But it’s a great picture, anyway. Because it perfectly captures a feeling; the love my children have for their beautiful mama. See, they’d made her breakfast and surprised her by bringing it to her while we were still in bed on Mother’s Day. So I grabbed my phone from my bedside table and BOOM, a portrait was born. That’s how most of our favorite images go down these days, right?
Well now the Disney Story app will let me take all the pictures of Mother’s Day on my phone and turn it into a real live story.
So, for example, the other day was the triplets’ last soccer game, and they were all fired up about it.
Pretty mundane, right?
But also pretty cool. Maybe not cool enough for me to bust out a tripod and go all Martin Scorsese, but certainly cool enough to document and share with family and friends. Which is why I busted out my iPhone several times that day. Then, just a second ago, I clicked on my Disney Story app and BOOM, in two minutes I’d formatted the following:
How strong is that? We’re headed to the beach here in a bit, and I can’t wait to find out what Disney Story awaits us. I’ll be sure to keep y’all posted.
In the meanwhile, remember — you can tell your own story, too! Download the Disney Story app for FREE on iTunes!!
