Disneyland Shortcuts That Save Time, Energy & Money!

Going to Disneyland is a big deal for most families. It’s special time together that you’ve planned and saved for.  Every moment is precious and you want to make the most of it.  You’ve probably already downloaded an app or two, and you’re planning on using fastpasses.  You may have even planned your route through the parks, making lists of what rides you want to go on, and where you might stop for lunch.

But I’ve got a few more “local” tips that could save you some time, money and frustration, and make your visit to the Disneyland Resort even more magical.  I’m talking about Disneyland Shortcuts.

We’ve been Annual Passholders for the better part of a decade and we’ve learned a few tricks. Nothing radical, illegal or  even slightly immoral. Just plain old fashioned strategy and planning.

It’s the sort of stuff we tell our friends when they visit our neighborhood. “C’mon, I know a shortcut!”

Yes there are Disneyland Shortcuts too.

Try some or all of these tips to preserve your energy, avoid parade crowds, get a Dole Whip without standing in a long line and be first in line to ride Dumbo when the park opens.

  • Take the Monorail 2 of 11
    Take the Monorail
The Monorail departs from Downtown Disney and takes you into the heart of the park. This is useful for early mornings when you want to beat the rush to popular rides. It's also a great way to get in and out of the park quickly for shorter visits if you are a pass holder and plan to stay for a couple of hours only. Park in Downtown Disney.
  • Bypass Main St 3 of 11
    Bypass Main St
Main Street is tons of fun if/when you're in the mood to shop. But if you really want to get to the rides and shows further back in the park, it can slow you down and sap your energy. Take advantage of the various forms of transportation and take a ride!

If you plan to take in the show at the Tiki room, time your Dole Whip treat for the waiting area. There are actually two lines for Dole Whip and the one in the waiting area for the show is much shorter.

    Single Rider Tip
If riding certain rides is more important than riding them together, or if only some of your party wants to ride, you can save lots of time and energy using the single rider lines. Rides that offer these options include: California Screaming, Soarin over California, Grizzly River Run, Goofy's Sky School, Radiator Racers, Indiana Jones and Splash Mountain

  • Take the Train 10 of 11
    Take the Train
The Disneyland Train runs in a loop from the park entrance on Main Street, to New Orleans Square, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland and back to Main Street, all day long. It's a great way to get from Fantasyland to the exit, and avoid parade crowds. It's also a great way to save energy and preserve patience when your crew starts to tire.
