When I was getting married, my photographers had me make a list of the photos I HAD to have. My list ranged from the basic family shots to group pictures with co-workers, snaps of people on the dance floor, and a pose of me with my ring bearer. I’m really glad they had me make a list, because those are the photos I treasure from my big day. Ever since then, I’ve made a list of must-take photos for every big event. Spending a few minutes doing this before a party or holiday has helped me capture every important event, and I don’t spend days afterward thinking, WHY didn’t I get a picture of THAT! So of course I have a holiday photo checklist, and I’m going to share it with you.
The lights: We love Christmas lights in our house. We hang them up all over the house, and we have them on the outside, too. I always take pictures of our trees and house all lit up.
Special clothes: I always get my kids holiday pajamas and dresses. Since they’re specialty items, they’re only worn a few times so I want to remember them.
The presents: I like to take a picture of the presents nicely set out to memorialize how much time was spent wrapping them, before they are all ripped open at record-breaking speed.
Opening the presents: On the flip side, I ALWAYS get pictures of the presents being unwrapped. There’s nothing like capturing the excited, happy look a well-given present can bring.
Family photos: I’m always the one that takes the photos, but this year I am going to make sure I’m IN the photos, too. One of the coolest features on my new Samsung Galaxy camera is that it’s voice activated. So, I can say “CHEESE!” and the camera will take our picture! It’s so much easier than a self-timer, and it’s going to blow my family’s collective mind.
What are your must-take photos?
