Hurry! Catch this Rare Haunted Mansion Hatbox Ghost Tee Before It DisappearsMegan Jordan
Now you see him… soon you won’t! The ever-elusive Hatbox Ghost from the original Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland has reappeared for a limited edition tee!
Available exclusively at DisneyStore.com for one week only, this favorite will return to the attic on Thursday, August 15.
Why all the spooky glee? The Hatbox Ghost is a character that appeared at the opening of the original Haunted Mansion in Disneyland, but vanished shortly after the ride’s debut. Designed as the primary scare in the attic scene, the ghost’s head was supposed to disappear and then reappear in the hatbox. Unfortunately, due to lighting trouble, the trick failed and the ghost was removed.
But as with the best ghosts, he never truly departed from the hearts of Disney fans. Entire worlds have been built around the lore of the Hatbox Ghost, including fan sites and a Facebook fan page. Rumor has it that director Guillermo del Toro is writing and producing a new film based on The Haunted Mansion attraction. At the 2010 Comic-Con, he stated that, in his version, The Hatbox Ghost will be a pivotal character.
Is Disney preparing us to once again embrace the ethereal coolness that is the Hatbox Ghost? Check out this fantastic video from this week’s D23 Disney ultimate fan expo captured by the even more amazing Inside the Magic featuring a new audio-animatronic Hatbox Ghost:
