Sometimes, when trying to navigate the often rough waters of marriage, I get lost in the storm of everything I think it’s supposed to be.
And just what do I think marriage is supposed to be? I don’t know. It’s probably a culmination of reading too many novels and sugar-coated blogs, watching too many romantic comedies or movies like The Notebook that, in my humble opinion, do a huge disservice to those of us just trying to deal with globs of toothpaste and beard whiskers in the sink and still feel that old black magic old blue eyes is famous for crooning about, you know?
Don’t get me wrong, I love a love story as much as the next gal, but sometimes it seems like they’re just setting us up for disappointment.
When relationship braggarts and one too many rom-com viewings have got me feeling bad about my own union I turn to cold, hard facts for the shot in the arm I need to keep the S.S. Matrimony afloat.
Thanks to the good people over at randomhistory.org there are a boatload of fascinating facts about marriage, and I decided to share a few of them with you in the hope that if you’ve got a hole in your boat you can plug it with the solace that you probably aren’t alone. That not everyone is rolling around on a sandy beach somewhere making passionate love as ocean waves lick their sweaty skins. That most of us are tired as hell and barely have time to roll over once a week for a little nookie.
