Help, Its The Travel Wars!

Not the most flattering picture AT ALL, but this is us… traveling with the film crew in our car.

I wish I was not writing out of sheer desperation, but I could really use your advice! I have two fighters on my hands and this momma is turning into one travel weary monster. We are on vacation, like so many in the Southern Hemisphere, taking advantage of the Christmas holiday to visit old friends and adventure along in the warm South African sun. Sounds blissful, right? Well, sort of…  My two boys, ages 3 and 6, recently began fighting over things. Our youngest just woke up one day and decided everything needs to be “mine.” This whole “mine” thing is usually not a huge problem because our oldest can give him a wide berth and carry on with his day while we lecture everybody on the benefits of sharing.

Jet-lagging in America, 2am.

Now that we are traveling and spending so much time in the car, they are backseat fighting like cats and dogs. There is not a MOMENT of peace between them unless they are sleeping. If it weren’t me experiencing it, I would actually find it pretty humorous. We’ve tried putting several different types of partitions between them, from suitcases to cooler boxes. I’ve Googled “how to stop kids from fighting in the car” “kids car fight” “why kids fight” “how to keep kids happy in the car.” So far, nothing has worked. We don’t allow electronic entertainment devices in the car, usually deeming car time as family time, but I am starting to re-think that strategy… I don’t want this kind of family time! Even if we did allow the use of our ONE iPad I know what would happen, they would fight over who gets to hold it. Help!!!

My little traveling pilot.

I THOUGHT that I was an old travel pro. We make an almost annual trip to the United States from Africa, which consists of no less than 3 airports and 30 hours in transit. Last year we traveled to Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, South Africa and the United States with the kids. I mean, that’s ROCK STAR traveling! I’ve even written posts containing all my good advice on traveling with kids. But right now, in this moment, my kids have me completely undone. Please help a weary momma out and leave me your good advice below. I would REALLY appreciate it!
