This week the builders have been putting in the cabinets and putting up the light fixtures in our new house. We’ve run over there every single day — usually twice a day — to see what’s been added, and our excitement is growing over the fact that we’ll be moving to our own home in early December.
Now it’s time to think about decor. We’re going to stick with a lot of things we already have, because who can afford a bunch of new furniture when you’ve spent every last cent on your new house? But, I do want to add some things here and there in the next year or so. We’re going to have beautiful hardwood floors, and I’d like to both accent them and protect them with some rugs. Besides, who doesn’t want to dig their toes into a soft rug when they’re wandering around in bare feet?
The interior style of my new house is Belgian design, and this is the color scheme:
Lots of beige, gray, cream and white. We’re going for peace and tranquility, and less crap cluttering every countertop and table. The rugs I own now have dark colors and are traditional in design. They just aren’t going to work, especially since I’m being pretty militant in demanding that everything fit into my carefully designed color scheme. I was pleasantly surprised to see several rugs from Home Depot that would work for our interior style. They were easy to find by searching online at the Home Depot website, which allows you to search by color.
I’m thinking of one of these for my office. My friend Jennifer, who is an awesome interior designer, has a faux sheepskin rug in her office, and it looks like such a comfy spot to bury my toes while I spend hours clicking away on the keyboard. I’m stealing her idea. I’m not sure whether to go with the Beige Flokati or the White Faux Sheepskin from Home Depot. Your thoughts?
Then there’s the family room. This is a hard one, since I’m not even sure how it will eventually be furnished. I’d actually love to have a rug that is white or cream, like this Cobblestone White Rug from Home Depot:
I’m living in a fantasy world, aren’t I? I have two kids. I’m out of my mind. I may end up having to go with something much darker to hide the pre-ordained juice stains. Since the backsplash tile in my kitchen is the same style, it might be interesting to carry that through to the family room with this Taupe Morocco style.
What do you think? Help me out here friends!
