How to be Happier: Life Lessons

We have a tendency to make life harder than it needs to be. The general guidelines for happiness are not complex, but I find myself ignoring them just the same. Let’s see if you can relate.

Get some Exercise

1. Get some exercise

Easy for me to say while I sit on my couch blogging, right? That’s exactly why I’m writing today’s article. I need reminders, too. It doesn’t take much to boost your endorphin levels with exercise. Just 20 to 30 minutes of exercise a few times a week is key for feeling better and being healthy.

2. Strive for balance

Everything in moderation is the saying we have heard all our lives. What does that look like? For me it means not letting myself go to extremes.

I have a tendency to get hyperfocused on work and before long, I’m miserable because I’ve crowded out all the things that bring me happiness. Making time to connect with friends, scheduling time to relax and enjoy life, and getting enough sleep are all my weak spots in the fight for balance. What things have a tendency to get out of balance in your life?

Quit your bad habits, seriously.

3. Lay off the bad habits

This picture, I know, right? Crazy. I snapped this picture with my phone from a magazine from the 1940′s. This is an ad for cigarettes that are made for smoking when you are sick. Maybe they were light? heh.

But seriously, we all have bad habits. Personally, I’m all about grabbing a candy bar and wasting time on Pinterest when I’m stressed. My goal is to do less candy bar grabbing and go outside and get some exercise when I’m stressed. Luckily the weather is just perfect to start spending more time outside.

A little more exercise, a little less candy and a lot more scheduled time for things I love are my goals for a happier Fall. Can you relate to any of these? I would love to hear what has and hasn’t worked for you.
