Whether you do it in honor or memory of a woman you love, there’s no better time than now to raise money for breast cancer awareness. During October many of your favorite brands are helping raise money for the fight against breast cancer. You can help by simply shopping or even traveling. There are even gift bags for the brave survivors in your life that helps others.
In 2013, the American Cancer Society estimates that 232,340 new cases of invasive breast cancer (Stages I-IV) will be diagnosed among women in the U.S., with 39,620 deaths. This means thousands of families will lose a loved one to this disease this year alone. I already had my mammogram this year and urge you to ask your doctor whether it’s time to do that exam. Early detection saves lives and I have witnessed it firsthand with many friends who caught a malignant lump in time. We now know that when a breast cancer is diagnosed at an early stage and is localized, 90 percent survive more than five years beyond their diagnosis.
There is still so much we don’t know about breast cancer and we need better treatments. Research is key and I hope I get to see the day in which we don’t have to worry about this disease taking the life of so many mothers, daughters, grandmothers, cousins, aunts and friends.
In the meantime, it’s super easy to join the fight against breast cancer. Even while you’re shopping for your favorite products or when you’re traveling. Here’s how.
