Why Goofy is My Favorite Disney Character
Sorry, Mickey Mouse. For many years, you used to be my favorite Disney character. However, now Goofy rules my heart.
Perhaps it’s due to my increased appreciation of the funnier moments in life to make you smile when things aren’t very magical on a day-to-day basis. Most probably, though, it’s because Goofy always makes my kids laugh. Without speaking a word, he just cracks them up. And hearing my children laugh does magical things to my soul. It makes me remember how it’s the simple things that make me feel happy.
Goofy might be an unusual choice. He’s very tall (which can be very intimidating), a bit clumsy, has imperfect teeth and his wardrobe could use some updating in the eyes of budding 6 year-old fashionistas that tend to prefer the glamorous princesses.
But I have a soft spot for the quirky, imperfect and funny. And Goofy is the perfect example of that. Throw in taking extra care to make even the youngest, moodiest of children feel extra special, and I’m a goner.
A few weeks ago we visited Walt Disney World, which was tons of fun and I’ll treasure forever the memories we created with my family. Memories we made sure to capture on video and pictures since we know by now that the older we get, the harder it is to remember those special moments unless you have safely stored them.
There was pure joy on my children’s faces when they saw the entrance to Walt Disney World as if it was the first time they had ever seen it, even though they’ve been many times before. Their eyes opened wide during the fireworks. Nervous giggles erupted when we were riding Splash Mountain in Magic Kingdom. All of these moments are now part of my family memories.
But most of all, this picture pretty much sums up why you need to capture those moments: Goofy surprised my children during a character breakfast and brought this smile to their faces. Now do you understand my new infatuation with Goofy?

Love the character breakfast! Was a favorite of mine when I was younger and was a big hit with my kids too. As far as characters go though…I can’t pick just one!
Emily, I highly recommend character breakfasts to all my friends when they visit Disneyworld. I actually enjoy them! My kids love getting 1:1 time as well. And I totally understand not being able to pick just one character.
Aw, that really is a great picture! I remember a similar moment with Minnie Mouse from my first trip to Disney when I was a kid and she has remained my favorite ever since!
Caitlin, Minnie is so sweet always, as well. It´s really hard to pick one single favorite character!
I second that. Goofy’s the best. We didn’t leave Disney World with Mickey ears, but we did buy a hat that looked like Goofy, complete with buck teeth and ears.
Disney World is such an amazing place to bring your kids! THere’s so many memories to be had, from brunching with Cinderella to riding teacups ’til your kids puke [yes, true story]. I love that this is a place that I once went to as a kid, and that I can now bring my kids to — and who knows, maybe my grandkids someday!
Aw, this brought a smile to my face, Jeannette. And I love the photo of your kids with Goofy!
Goofy has always been my absolute favorite. When I finally went to Disney – I was so happy meeting him.
My favorite family memory was when we took all 3 of our boy’s to Disneyland for the 1st time. The excitement and joy on their faces was priceless!
My husband and I were just looking for a simple video camera to capture moments like those. My family has tried to take one trip a year together (out of state every other year, out of the country the rest) and I will always remember the fun time we had in Cancun! We have family there and I got to see my great-grandmother for the last time before she passed away. It was wonderful!
My one of my favorite memories is from last year when my daughter met Princess Aurora. It was amazing to see my little, shy girl light up and talk to Aurora like they were best friends. It was something she may not remember when she’s older, but something I’ll never forget. That’s why we love Disney…priceless memories to last a lifetime.
My favorite memories is standing behind my children during a parade at DisneyWorld watching them wave to the characters in the parade. It was so moving for me I just couldn’t hold back the tears.
