If you’re looking for makeup ideas for the holidays or simply need to update your look to begin 2014 looking better than ever, don’t stress. You can adapt most trends to your own personal style, as long as you know what works best with your features. The idea is to look like you, just an improved or more polished version. The last thing you want is to feel as if you are playing grown-up with makeup.
An easy way to look more festive in less than 3 minutes is to add red lip gloss or lipstick. Just be careful to apply within your lips’ natural line. Blot with a tissue and check that there is no lipstick on your teeth.
Another quick pick-me-up is bronzer. Pick one that is one to two shades darker than your natural skin tone and that is matte. There are too many bronzers in the market that are shimmery and they might look great for formal evenings, but in more relaxed settings such as holiday dinners, they look like a bit too much. I prefer a more natural approach.
Over the years after working on television, I’ve learned a few makeup tips from pros in the industry. The most important one is to just highlight one feature. If you’re defining your eyes with lots of mascara and eyeshadow, go easy on your lips and leave them almost bare. Or if you’ll be wearing a bright lipstick, tone down your eye makeup and stick to a neutral palette. If you want to see a few examples, just take a look below:
