Top Democratic Moms You Should Know

By Joanne Bamberger |

Last week, the Republicans put together a diverse group of speakers and guests at their convention that included many women who happen to be mothers. Even though Ann Romney’s speech there left the impression that the GOP has cornered the market on loving moms (and their votes), the Democrats have plenty of mothers who hold elective office or are running who are being highlighted or will be attending the Charlotte convention, as well.

So after naming the Republicans last week, I figured it was only fair to do the same for the Democrats as their convention gets into full swing. Some names you’ll recognize and others might be new to you. So which ten caught my attention?

Debbie Wasserman Schultz

U.S. Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL) - This mother of three isn't your typical lunch-packing mom in a pink sweatsuit (though a New York Times article a while back made her look that way). Wasserman Schultz is also the head of the Democratic National Committee, the powerful fundraising arm of the Democratic Party. If you don't live in Florida, you might recognize her name as one of former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords good friends who kept fundraising efforts going in case Giffords had decided she was up for another electoral race following her shooting.

Who is your favorite Democratic woman this year?
