Meet Jewelry Maker Ian Nigh of Maritime Supply Co.

We’re all longing for a little beach time right about now. And while it might be too early to put on a swimsuit, it’s perfect weather for wearing one of these awesome bracelets or necklaces from Maritime Supply Co. Handmade in Greenville, South Carolina, by owner Ian Nigh, each bracelet is both nostalgic, stylish, and meticulously crafted with a few simple materials.

Ian’s always enjoyed making things by hand — chairs made from cassette tapes, 3D wire sculptures — but it was his signature anchor bracelet that lead to his successful jewelry business. It all began on Black Friday in 2012 when Ian decided to run a sale on Etsy. “The cha-ching alert that the Etsy app makes when you complete a sale is how I will forever remember Thanksgiving of 2012,” says Ian.

I just love it when a passion for craftsmanship turns into a profitable business that we can all enjoy! Here’s a look at some of my favorite Maritime Supply Co. samplings. Anchors away!

This is where all the awesomeness began: the signature anchor bracelet. And this is the photograph Ian and his family posted on Facebook to promote the Etsy shop that led to the cha-ching that led to success! An elegant, simple idea that looks great on anyone.

Anchor bracelets available for $48 from Maritime Supply Co.

Ian has teamed up with a small foundry located in the southwest that casts each anchor. The wooden stock is handcrafted and finished in the Maritime Supply Co. shop, giving each piece its rustic nautical style.

I love the idea of getting one of these knot bracelets for the whole family to celebrate summer beach vacations, don't you? They come in different sizes, too, so you can easily outfit grownups and kiddos alike.

Another great option for summer. These buoys are hand painted and distressed, and the ropes are twisted in an American mill.
