Monster Party Ideas Inspired by Monsters U

This post is sponsored by Disney’s Monsters University and Target. To plan your own Monsters U party, visit Target.com/Disney and makes sure to catch Monsters U now playing in theaters.

PARTY LIKE A MON-STAR or AWESOME MONSTER PARTY IDEAS

My new thing (since having baby #2) is KEEP IT SIMPLE. I am 100% aware that my version of “simple” might be slightly different than some, but I am who I am!

So when I was challenged to come up with some party ideas to celebrate Monsters University I was really eager to apply my new mantra. The party “decorations” were almost all things used or made for the kids to eat or play with, and I tried to not have too much planned. I think any gathering or party should have one or two loosely structured activities. Everything ended up being SUPER fun and the kids of course went gaga over the monster swag.

Isn’t it funny how a character on a juice box can be the end-all to a toddler? (says the grown woman who bought a commemorative Twilight cup at the movie…) From the monster shirts to the monster snacks we all had a rip roaring good time. Check it out!

When I host a party or gathering I try to use what I will be using for the party as decoration, as opposed to spending a lot of time or money on something extra! Here I used the snacks and props for the party games as a fun display table.

Again, just by displaying the party items in a fun way they instantly become decoration. How cool are those gem crayons from Target?! I'm obsessed and the kids were too. Each kid had about 3 juice boxes. SUGAR HIGH.

I wanted the kids to have something to do right as they arrived. So I got some cute t-shirts and tank tops from Target, as well as some fabric paints. I had the stencils cut out and ready to go so kids could choose which character they wanted on their shirt.

We used a Sharpie paint pen to trace the stencils on the shirt. Make sure to put some card stock in the shirt so the paint doesn't bleed. I lined the table with butcher paper and put out these awesome crayons so kids could color on the table while their shirt was getting prepped.

The painting supplies, juice boxes and fruit snacks made for super awesome place settings. No extra money or time required.

I HIGHLY recommend the round foam stampers for younger kids, it helps them make the shirt look less ugly...haha so you'll actually want them to wear it. I also wrote each kid's name above his or her shirt so that the sizes (which I had checked on in advance) didn't get too mixed up.

After we were done painting we headed outside to play some Monster Pong! These eyeballs were SUCH a hit with the kids. For a full tutorial on how to make these and how to play Monster Pong check out the post!

The kids liked trying to play Monster Pong, especially the older ones, but what really kept them entertained was just transferring water from cup to cup and watching the balls float. This would be a great summer activity any day of the week!

  • Monsters U Mac n’ Cheese 9 of 11

Moms and kids alike enjoyed a snack of Monsters Mac n' Cheese, and it has totally become THE requested lunch in this house since. Available at Target
