My Barbie is a Fashionista

And by my Barbie I mean Sadie’s Barbie. Can we talk about Barbie’s name for a minute? So Barbie was named after the creator, Ruth’s, daughter Barbara. Have you ever noticed that no one is named Barbara anymore? Not even to be kitschy. You would never see a woman with an infant in a sling, ask her the baby’s name and have her say, “Barb.” Just wouldn’t happen. Same for Linda, Jennifer, Lisa, Delores, and yes, even Stefanie. Why is that I wonder? I mean, it was totally cool to name my daughter Sadie, which is a full-on grandma name (and also popular with cats) yet, I wouldn’t have dared name her Barbara. Whatever. I digress.

Sadie, of the old fashioned name, received the Barbie Fashionista toy for her birthday (like you saw in one of my recent posts) and she hasn’t stopped playing with it since. This is actually a huge feat because if you know kids, especially the 5-year-old brand, you know they have extremely short attention spans. Some things she got she forgot about so fast that I snuck them off to the closet to give to a toy drive or possibly back to her for Christmas, but this toy hasn’t been out of her sight.

You have to buy the Barbie separately but if your house is anything like mine, there are numerous Barbies in various stages of undress (okay mostly nude) hanging out waiting for a closet full of clothes. To be honest, most of the Barbies have come to us with only the clothes on their backs and have never had a proper shopping trip for new outfits. So this is awesome. Also, it’s good practice for hanging clothes back on hangers. Yeah, as if it will spill over to real life. Never happen.
