I can almost see the other kids at school. The friends who come up to get a close-up look at today’s lunchtime art exhibit, and even the too-cool kids who walk by with craned necks to catch a glance without seeming to. In my mind’s eye, I even see the teachers making a routine of eagerly coming to check them out. Who wouldn’t?!?
This is one dad’s way of showing his love. He’s got an artistic gift and he uses it to, in turn, give the gift of fun and art to his kid and, well, let’s be honest, make his child the most popular person at school probably.

To answer the question some of you may be asking, about what ultimately happens to these brown-paper-bag-sterpieces: I DO NOT KNOW.
I’m just glad pictures were taken before the ravages of school lockers and eating areas took their toll on these amazing creations. For me, as a dad and as an artist, these are so amazing they’re like an exquisitely decorated cake I wouldn’t want ruin by cutting and serving. The idea of these going off to school to store food and get crumpled and ultimately tossed in the trash makes me wince a little. But it seems like this dad could just keep them coming, so he’s a great dad and a much better artist than me for doing this.
Ugh! I just love this so much! Not just because they are insanely rad, but because of the time and care these took to make, the love it shows. But also the insanely rad part, I MEAN COME ON! Look at ‘em! UGH!!! Brilliant!
