Feed the Body and Spirit: 9 Nourishing Food Quotes and Recipes

Two of my great passions are words and food.

Reading alone and with my family, making food for my family and friends, and writing stories that capture our family memories and special moments bring me great joy and pleasure in life.

So many of my fondest family memories involve cooking together and reading together, and now as a parent I’m making it a goal to nurture those same passions in my children.

Every chalkboard in my house, every scrap of paper, even the walls of our home are decorated with quotes that move me, speak to my soul, inspire me, and encourage me.

I write quotes and words of encouragement on napkins and place them in my kids’ lunchboxes every morning so that when they open their lunches at school they are reminded of how much they are loved, and I’m sharing my love of words at the same time.

One of my very favorite quotes, one that I want to put on a canvas or board and hang in my kitchen, is a Thomas Keller quote which says:

A recipe has no soul, you as the cook must bring soul to the recipe

There’s something about those words that just resonates within my southern heart.

While I am teaching my children to love food and cooking, I am also trying to instill in them a love for foods that feed their souls and nourish their bodies at the same time.

I’ve gathered up 9 healthy recipes from around the web, and paired them with food related quotes for a slideshow that is a treat for the eyes and the spirit.
