Looking for Love and Finding it, One Photo at a Time

By Tracey Clark and Her Teen |

My mother has always loved hearts. My guess is it’s because her birthday is so close to Valentine’s Day. It’s kind of like her holiday.  Over the years she’s collected all kinds of things that either had hearts on them or were the shape of a heart. She would give my sisters and I (and now my daughters too) little heart shaped trinkets; little tokens of love. Even though I always appreciated her heart shaped world, I always just thought of it as her thing, not mine.

But five years ago, at the very start of the Shutter Sisters blog, my friend and shutter sister Karen Walrond started a weekly feature there called Love Thursday. And so sparked my interest in seeking out love in even the unlikeliest of places. With the obvious symbol of love being the heart, my search for love became a search for hearts and so began my own love affair with the recognizable, unmatched gracious heart.

For the past five years I have experienced hearts in a million different ways. I have created them, I have sought them out, I have found them, I have given and received them and of course I have captured them through the lens of my camera.

When it comes to looking for love (and hearts), these are some of the best I’ve found.

For me, finding hearts in my everyday life is an affirmation. With each heart, I am reminded that love is everywhere. We just need to keep focusing on it.
