Red, White, and Blue streamers, the American flag whipping in the wind and fireworks bursting in the sky above.
Barbecue pits blazing, sizzling meat hitting the grates, children’s laughter, parades, and the National Anthem piping through the speakers.
Plates heaped with food, ice chests filled to the brim, sparklers lighting up the sky as kids try to write their names, and being grateful for what we have.
The 4th of July is a huge day for grilling and celebrating Freedom with food, beverages, fireworks and friends.
Depending on where you live the temperatures can range from a mild 75° F all the way to a scorching 110°F, and whether you’re trying to warm up, cool off, or just enjoy all the delicious treats that are weighing down the picnic tables – you’d rather they not weigh you down as well.
As much as I love spicy, creamy potato salad loaded down with bacon, mustard, mayonnaise and bacon (heh) and even though the 24 hour salad seems to be a staple at all southern cookouts – I’d like to see lighter dishes making an appearances.
Dishes that feature flavor, not fat.
Dishes that are as gorgeous to look at, as they are yummy to eat.
