Now that we are moving into 2014 it’s a great time to reflect on the events of 2013. As my children get older they start to notice more in the news and popular culture around them. This has been a great time to bring up open discussions between the family. We have been able to talk about what these events mean, and how they affect us all.
There were many things that occurred in 2013, such as the Boston Bombing and the passing of Nelson Mandela. Although sad, there are many lessons we can take from them. Use these events as platforms to be able to open up conversation with the kids. Help them make sense of their feelings, so that they are better equipped to deal with major events in the future.
