Canadians,I realize this isn’t new news to you.
It was a year ago when you heard through gossip, animated transit discussion, radio news, facebook posts, desperate exhilarated twitter talk and perhaps pigeon carrier that Target had purchased Zellers and was indeed opening stores in Canada*, North of the border: Where you don’t have to sleep in a hotel room in Niagara Falls USA just because you want to go shopping. And there is no need to pull out your passport because you’re just going to Buffalo for the day. You, know. “For the WINGS.”
And listen, I’m not deterring cross-border shopping. It’s fun and Buffalo happens to have one incredible art gallery that you can pop into after filling yourself with high fat dipping sauce and outlet shopping. But soon, oh so very soon, you will be able to get in your car and be at a Target in possibly under 15 minutes.
For all our American readers I know you are nodding your head, knowing full well the bountiful goodness that bursts forth from your local Target. But for the vast number of Canadians who don’t know what I’m talking about and are scratching their heads wondering why I’m going on and on about a department store…you just wait. And you know I wouldn’t be waxing on about this if I didn’t seriously think it was going to be fantastic. And it’s not just that I’m a sucker for a bargain, you can find those almost anywhere. I’m just a sucker for a bargain that looks good and actually lasts. I would say, without exaggeration, that my daughter has worn this dress at least 100 times and it looks exactly the same as the day she received it (from her Aunt who sends Target goodies via Chicago):
It has not shrunk or even changed color. It’s almost freaky. My children are hard on clothing but for some magical reason their clothing from Target tends to last. My eldest child is now at the age where she cares very much what she’s wearing and her #1 rule is that it must be comfortable. I encourage this thinking as I fully know one day (which will be too soon in my mind) she’ll be wearing high heels and trying to convince me that they are as comfortable as running shoes. But for today, her favorite choices include styles like these two dresses that you can throw on with a pair of tights:
Go forth and shop! And soon Canadians…Oh so very very soon…
*Target Canada Stores open March 2013.But you can still shop in the States.
But for now you can check out their website at: http://corporate.target.ca/m/company/
