So much about Christmas this year was awful.
On December 17th which happened to also be the 20th anniversary of my husband and I being together my mother (who lives with us) had an incident. The next day, we convinced her to go to the hospital, where she’s been ever since.
I got sick the day before Christmas. Just a cold, but a wicked one at that.
Money was unexpectedly spent because we had to repair my mother’s car (part of her issue involved her damaging her car), so the Christmas we thought would mean gifts for all was switched back to just gifts for my daughter.
Pretty rotten set of circumstances, eh?
But you know what? None of that really mattered. Yes, it sucked that my mom couldn’t be here for Christmas dinner (we visited her Christmas morning and brought her a special breakfast, though).
My daughter’s face Christmas morning made it all worthwhile. Her favorite present by far is the big toy horse we got her. There’s a happy story with that horse; see, we fell behind in Christmas shopping and by the time we tried to find her a big horse we couldn’t find one anywhere. I tweeted about it, and the internet made itself busy finding my daughter a horse. We were directed to a store chain I would never have considered, and were able to reserve and pick up the very last of the big horses.
I love the internet.
We had great friends over for dinner, which was delicious.
I’m sad about my mother, and there are plenty more hurdles to clear in that regard.
But Christmas this year? It was wonderful.
