Boys and Style: The Ties that Bind

By |

Everyone talks about how fun it is to dress girls (and FINE, of course it is!) but boys can have style too!

My son dresses (and lives) to the beat of a different drummer. Once upon a time, he used to believe he was Indiana Jones, so he wore a fedora everywhere. It was a very adventuresome time, but like so many good things, it didn’t last. That was sad.

Thankfully he moved on to ties. He begged us to buy him a tie. When his father was in Paris on business, he asked him to bring him a tie. So he did (it was from H&M, but a French one, so it was still fancy!)

I believe it’s my job as his mom to encourage his creativity and self-expression, so we’re indulging his love of ties. I love seeing how he finds use for ties in his typical five  year-old life. He wears them with button up shirts. He wears them on SpongeBob sweatshirts. He wears on T-shirts. He doesn’t need a special occasion — he creates his own!

I’m not going to lie, I’m kind of hoping for bow ties to be his next style statement. Boys in ties are cute enough, but a little boy in a bow tie is criminally so!
