To Restore Your Faith in Humanity

Screen Shot 2013-08-31 at 5.22.51 PMMy constant need to be up to date on current events has left me overwhelmed this week. Between the March on Washington, the horrific events in Syria and a major election happening in New York City, I am mentally tired from accepting that this is the world in which we reside. I could go for some simplicity right now. The other day I was telling a friend about another case of rampant racism (people are NOT discrete about that anymore) when she told me that I was aiding and abetting her loss of faith in humanity. I had many opinions that I started to write about but two minutes later I came across the video with Kristin Chenoweth and the voice teacher: Um. Hello. Here’s an opinion: This is why we need to have arts education. It’s always the first thing to go when budget cuts arise and then we could lose out on people like Sarah Horn. And then! A bonus! As I’m grinning and not worrying about what’s happening on CNN, I see this video featuring Lenny Kravitz: [videopost src=''] I mean, C’MON! You’re smiling now, aren’t you. You’re feeling a bit better. You’re a little distracted from the horrors of the world. You’re thinking that even for a moment, music makes everything better.  (Photo by Wikimedia user Kadellar) Keep the conversation going with Heather Barmore at Poliogue: The Art of Political Dialogue, Twitter and Facebook.
