True Life: I Was Anderson Cooper Live’s Blogger of the Day

photo(36)As I stepped out into the freezing New York morning (positively brutal, you guys) from the comfort of my apartment, for once I was not en route to the subway. I was spared from the elements that day. In fact, a spiffy black SUV was parked outside of my silly little building … and it was waiting for me.

As we sped across Central Park, my nerves began to kick in. I had been given the opportunity to attend a taping of Anderson Cooper Live on behalf of Babble … as Live Blogger of the Day, nonetheless! I’d be live-tweeting from @BabbleEditors (you know you want to follow us!) and documenting the entire experience from the audience. While I do write a bit and work very closely with our fabulous Babble bloggers, it’s not often that I find myself in their shoes. As Live Blogger of the Day, I was entering the world of top-notch bloggers like Ilana Wiles (who blogs over on Babble Baby and Toddler) … and I can’t say that it wasn’t thrilling.

The experience kept getting fancier; I had my own dressing room, I was whisked off to hair and makeup, and there were free sandwiches … free sandwiches, people! And it gets better — the show itself was immediately quite the blast — the audience was dancing before Anderson even took the stage.

The episode proceeded to be absolutely thought provoking … and boy, did it address a hot bed of parenting issues. Dara-Lynn Weiss (aka “Diet Mom”), best known for her viral Vogue article about putting her 7-year-old daughter on a diet, was a guest. Dara-Lynn Weiss is no stranger to Babble (see our exclusive Q & A) and just released novel The Heavy in January documenting her child’s dieting experience.

Tension on set was practically palpable when it became clear that co-host Kimora Lee Simmons did NOT agree with Dara-Lynn’s approach. Not in the least. Neither did guest child development specialist Dr. Robyn Silverman. In fact, the majority of the audience was in the same boat judging by the prevalence of groans and shaking heads.

If you missed our live tweets accompanying yesterday’s air date, don’t fret! Below you’ll find highlights … plus some behind-the-scenes photos from the Silver Fox’s den! — Corinne Bagish, blog coordinator
