Hi there friends, new and old. I’m Heather Spohr, and welcome to my corner of the internet. Well, another corner of the internet that belongs to me. Al Gore can’t have ‘em all.
For those of you who haven’t read my blog The Spohrs Are Multiplying, let me tell you a bit about myself. I’m a born and raised Californian, having lived all but one year of my life in or near Los Angeles. I’m married to Mike and together we have two daughters, Madeline and Annabel, and a dog, Rigby.
Madeline was born eleven weeks premature in November of 2007. She spent two and a half months in the NICU before she came home. She had a few return visits to the hospital for respiratory infections, a common occurrence for preemie babies with lung issues. In April of 2009, Maddie came down with a respiratory infection, and she passed away the next day. She was four days shy of 17 months old. We miss her fiercely every day. The internet community rallied around us and provided unbelievable support and even raised money for us. We took that money and started Friends of Maddie, a non-profit organization to help support families with children in the NICU.
Annabel was born four weeks early in January of 2011. She is a whirlwind child who gets into everything, loves to be the center of attention, and gives me ten new grey hairs per day (on average). Her personality is large, and her stubbornness rivals mine. I foresee many long days of butting heads.
My daughter does allow me the time to pursue other activities. Besides my own blog, I co-run Curvy Girl Guide, a women’s lifestyle magazine. I do lots of fundraising for March of Dimes and Friends of Maddie, and I’m dedicated to helping women have healthy pregnancies and babies.
Lest you think I am some sort of active person, I do almost everything from my couch or desk. That includes watching too much TV, spending hours on the internet, and taste testing various snacks. You see, if you call it “taste testing” then the calories don’t count. I love to have fun and laugh, and I’m ridiculously silly.
I’m looking forward to blogging here and getting to know all of you better. It’s going to be fun, woo hoo!
