You Don’t Say: Addie’s No Wimpy Kid

Early last week I was invited to a local bookstore to meet and interview Jeff Kinney, New York Time’s bestselling author of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. Addie has read three of the seven books and was unaware that she was going to be getting the entire set for her 8th birthday in December. When this opportunity came up I asked if she’d be willing to do the interview if her class helped her come up with some questions. Her entire class, together with their teacher, came up with 13 questions. While Addie was totally bold the night before, nerves got to her the morning of but she still managed to ask all of her questions.

This is where I say as a mom that Jeff could not have been kinder and more patient with Addie. He impressed me with his humble demeanor, patience, humor and I can’t thank him enough for taking time out of his busy schedule to meet with my little kid, leaving her feeling like the most important kid in the world.

How many more books will Jeff be writing? How does he come up with his ideas? Click through to find out!

After our morning interview with Jeff she showed me this in her journal (posted with her permission.)

Today I went tot a birthday party. It was AWESOME!! And I went to the Diary of a Wimpy Kid tour bus. And I got to see the author of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid book. His name is Jeff Kinney.

She watched multiple videos of how to draw like Jeff Kinney before and after she met him and her little drawings have taken on a whole new life.

Thanks again to Mr. Kinney, 4Kids Bookstore in Zionsville and to everyone else who made this opportunity possible. Neither of us will soon forget it.
