A week or so back, my daughter learned to fly fish at a nearby state park. But the reality is that had we not had access to a beautiful, safe, well-maintained park such as this locally, it’s likely that it would have been a long time before she would have picked up a rod – if she ever did.
These are the gifts parks give us, and they are invaluable.
And every day, people all over the country just like you are enjoying them. They’re fishing, biking, hiking, playing on playgrounds… and of course playing fetch with a new furry friend, as my daughter did:
Aaaand also jumping in the river:
Aaaand also walking in the woods:
And so many other wonderful things (picnics in the park, anyone?). But photos like these just wouldn’t be possible without strong support for our parks, which is why I’m thrilled that Coca-Cola is continuing to sponsor their annual “America Is Your Park” campaign, allowing people from all across the country to lend their support to, and vote for, their favorite park. Here’s everything you need to know:
Want to get involved? Here are some ideas:
- Set up a Facebook page to spread the word and rally friends, family, and the community around your park.
- Use the Facebook/Twitter badge and Facebook cover photo here to help raise awareness and get others involved.
- Get out to the park and play! While you’re there, tell people you interact with about the campaign and encourage them to vote. Remember: each “check-in” on Foursquare from the park earns your park 100 votes. Check out LivePositively.com/parks for more details on voting from the park.
- Organize your community using the toolkit on LivePositively.com/parks, and send emails, letters and tweets to community leaders, park groups, and local celebrities, telling them about the campaign.
But most importantly, remember to get out and vote as many times as you want for your favorite park between now and July 15th. You have nothing to lose, and your favorite park has everything to gain!
What’s your favorite thing to do in the park? Let me know in comments!
