Meaning: Strength in battle

Origin: English

Alternate spellings: None

Wyatt is an English name that means “strength in battle,” a definition that matches the name’s rugged appeal. It doesn’t really matter that the only battle your little Wyatt will be fighting for many years is the one against the monsters under his bed.

The name is still widely associated with legendary lawman Wyatt Earp and the gunfight at the O.K. Corral. In the U.S., Wyatt was on the charts in 1880, but dropped off for a number of years between the 1920s and 1950s. In the following decades, Wyatt took a slow path up the charts, but started to rise quickly in the mid-1990s. Sheryl Crow named her son Wyatt in 2007, which may have given the already rising name an extra boost.
