10 Baby Safe Sunscreens

Summer is here! Summer is here! Yay! Summer is here!

Well, late spring is here but it’s hot and sunny and that’s good enough for me. It means we can head outside and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine and, most importantly, the pool!

Both my husband and I have very fair skin and my kids have inherited that trait. While it’s pretty, fair skin is a summer hazard. We all burn quickly and painfully so sunscreen in a must. To make matters a little more complicated, my son and I both have reactions to the chemicals in long-lasting chemical sunscreens, especially aerosol ones. They make my skin dry and flaky and give my son huge flares of eczema. We need to stick with the physical sunscreens that rely on barriers like zinc or titanium to block harmful rays. The good news is they’re effective and gentle enough to use on babies as well as bigger people. The bad news is that they’re hard to find. Also? They’re expensive. Bleah. But they’re undeniably a better choice for my family so I send the money (and the time) to find them so that we can spend the summer in comfort.

Environmental Working Group just released their list of sunscreens and I rounded up their picks for 10 baby safe sunscreens – great for any one with sensitive skin – and linked up to where you can buy them (product names link to EWG ratings). Happy summer!
