25 Things You Probably Don't Know About Me

25 things you didn't know about me...like the fact that I really wish I wore glasses and these ones are fakes.

I’ve been writing here at Babble for quite a while now; all throughout my pregnancy and now here at Baby’s First Year, but I’ve never really written much about myself.

Yes, I’ve written about some personal things…post-baby boobsmommy fail moments and birth control, but never really about any of the things that make me, me.  And, I figured that now is as good a time as any to get to know one another.

Inspired by Serge and Monika’s 25 things post, I thought I’d whip up my own list and give you lovely readers a better idea of who I am and what makes me tick.  I love learning random facts about people, so I thought you might enjoy learning some random facts about me.

Click through to read 25 things about me & then be sure to share something about you:

  • I am a reformed baby hater 1 of 25
I am a reformed baby hater
I used to be a complete baby hater. I always wanted to have kids, but I was never keen on the baby stage. But, in order to have kids, they have to be babies first, I decided to take the plunge. Everyone told me I'd feel differently when I had my own baby and they were right. I even like other people's babies now! Who would've thought?! Certainly not my former self.
  • I had my hair braided in Kenya 2 of 25
I had my hair braided in Kenya
The summer after I graduated from college I went on a missions trip to work in schools in Kenya and while I was there I had my hair braided. It was SO heavy and I had blisters on my scalp!
  • I could live on bread and cheese alone 3 of 25
I could live on bread and cheese alone
Bread and cheese are hands down my most favorite foods. I've never met a cheese I didn't like and my favorite meal is a baguette and cheese. I don't even need it cut - I'll just break off hunks of bread.
  • I’ve been a bridesmaid five times 4 of 25
I've been a bridesmaid five times
...and Maid of Honor twice. I have lot of worn-once dresses in my closet. This one was my favorite though.
  • I literally couldn’t boil water before I got married 5 of 25
I literally couldn't boil water before I got married
I am absolutely NOT exaggerating. I pretty much lived on tuna melts and cereal when I was in college. When I got married though, I had this idea in my head of what a wife was "supposed to do" and that included making amazing dinners every night. I made a different meal every night for the first three months of marriage and most of the time it took me 2-3 hours to cook because I had zero kitchen skill and I would unknowingly choose super difficult recipes. After three months I had a bit of a break down from all the pressure I put on myself. But, it was trial by fire and now I know how to cook, so I guess it was a success.
  • I love coffee 6 of 25
    I love coffee
I am not addicted to coffee. I can go without it and be just fine, but I really do enjoy the flavor. Lucky for me I live in Portland where quality espresso is plentiful.
  • I’ve been dog sledding 7 of 25
    I've been dog sledding
My husband and I went to Whistler for our honeymoon and while we were there went snowboarding and dog sledding.
  • I love dressing up 8 of 25
    I love dressing up
I love to dress up - silly, fancy or otherwise. I will use any excuse to dress up as you can see. Dressing up is the thing I miss most about college. Every party was themed and it was my idea of heaven.
  • I slept with ear plugs for six years 9 of 25
I slept with ear plugs for six years
During college I lived in a Christian sorority and shared a sleeping room. I learned to sleep with ear plugs and after I moved out, it stuck. I slept with ear plugs every night until we brought Fern home from the birthing center and then I quit cold turkey. It was rough, but I made it through.
  • I used to be afraid of German Shepherds 10 of 25
I used to be afraid of German Shepherds
I always thought German Shepherd dogs were mean and scary, but my husband always wanted one and now that we have one I'd honestly never get another breed. Our dog Marley is seriously the most amazing dog.
  • My parents met at Griffith Park Observatory 11 of 25
My parents met at Griffith Park Observatory
My parents always told us the story of how they met at the observatory and I thought it was the most romantic thing ever. It was on my life list to go to the oberservatory and a couple of summers ago during a road trip we went. It's a really lovely place.
  • I am an introverted extrovert 12 of 25
    I am an introverted extrovert
Every personality test I've ever taken has said that I'm an extrovert. The Meyers-Briggs personality test says that I'm an ENFJ (Extrovert, Intuitive, Feeling, Judging), but I always score so close to being introverted (off by only a few points). I definitely love being around people and I'm pretty social, but I need downtime after being around groups and need alone time to recharge.
  • I’ve had at least 20 jobs since I was 18 13 of 25
I've had at least 20 jobs since I was 18
I haven't had this many jobs because I get fired, but because I've often had two or three jobs at a time and many short-term jobs during college. My jobs have included: *multiple jobs in retail *a hostess at a restaurant *a server at a retirement home *a teacher at a preschool *an assistant in a junior high reading classroom *a day camp coordinator *an after-school program worker *a chaperone at middle school dances *a treatment center working with youth *a quality control specialist *a social worker *a college note-taker *a photography assistant *a wardrobe and prop stylist *professional blogger. Phew!
  • I am hair and makeup challenged 14 of 25
I am hair and makeup challenged
I love clothes (or at least I love them when I'm not pregnant or breast feeding) and love getting dressed, but I've never been good at doing the hair and makeup that goes along with my outfits. I blame it on my curly mop that I've never quite figured out how to manage.
  • I like off-roading 15 of 25
    I like off-roading
My husband has two G-Wagens and I like to go on off-roading adventures with him and his other G-Wagen friends.
  • I was named after perfume 16 of 25
    I was named after perfume
Apparently "Lauren" perfume by Ralph Lauren was really popular in the 80's and my mom loved it and decided to name me after it. I smelled it recently and it totally smelled like an old lady.
  • I used to love the color pink and now I hate it 17 of 25
I used to love the color pink and now I hate it
I think growing up wearing pink sparkly cowboy boots and pink ruffles 24/7/365 ruined the color for me. My OD'ing on the color pink has made me the anti-pink mom.
  • I flew a plane once 18 of 25
    I flew a plane once
For my 25th birthday my dad arranged a flight with one of his friends at work. I got to take the controls for a bit which was both exhilarating and terrifying.
  • I married my high school sweetheart 19 of 25
I married my high school sweetheart
I have known my husband Craig since the 4th grade. I like to say that he is my Mr. Darcy, because I used to detest him and then disdain turned into love. We started dating 10 years ago during my senior year of high school and got married four years ago.
  • My middle name is Rose, but I hate roses 20 of 25
My middle name is Rose, but I hate roses
My middle name is Rose after my grandmother Rosemary, but I don't like roses. I much prefer weedy-looking flowers. Once my husband unknowingly took Round-Up to my favorite "flowers" in our yard and I was so upset!
  • I am completely creeped out by squirrels 21 of 25
I am completely creeped out by squirrels
I know that it's completely irrational, but I hate squirrels. I always think of that scene in Christmas Vacation where the squirrel jumps out of the Christmas tree and attaches itself to Chevy Chase's face. Creepy.
  • I have one tattoo 22 of 25
    I have one tattoo
I only have one tattoo and it took less than one minute to get: a single line for a wedding band. I have a real ring too, but my husband is a mechanic and can't wear his ring at work and suggested that we get tattoos a couple years ago.
  • I am ridiculously temperature sensitive 23 of 25
    I am ridiculously temperature sensitive
I'm always "so freaking hot!" or "freezing" cold. There's an in between, but it's only from 68-75 degrees Fahrenheit; anything colder is too cold and anything hotter is too hot.
  • I learned to walk when I was 9 months old 24 of 25
I learned to walk when I was 9 months old
My mom loves to tell the story of the first time I walked. According to the legend, we were in the waiting room at the doctor's for my 9-month baby check up. My mom was making small talk with a woman whose baby was walking around the room. She asked my mom if I was walking yet, to which my mom replied, "No." She says that no sooner had she answered then I slid off her lap and walked across the room.
  • I changed my college major four times 25 of 25
I changed my college major four times
Apparently I'm indecisive. My majors were: Education, then Psychology, then Education again and I finally settled on Social Work.
