6 Holiday Traditions I Can’t Wait To Share With My Baby

The December holiday lead-up is quickly reaching its apex, replete with Christmas cookies, Hanukkah gelt, songs, and ornaments of all sizes. The malls are packed with little kids waiting to see Santa, houses and trees are draped in lights, and my husband and I may spike some eggnog with a little rum after the kids go to bed.

Having kids at the holidays is a special kind of joy. My 4 year old has already asked if he can stay up when Santa comes because he “wants to say hi to him” and he’s already asking if we can give the baby her gifts. Kids’ excitement over everything is infectious and makes the season extra bright.

Here are some of our family’s holiday traditions that I’m excited to share with my baby this year!

We love trains! The holidays around DC are a bonanza for beautiful train displays. We like to make the rounds of a few different annual displays including the gorgeous one at the Botanic Garden near the Capitol. Everything is made of organic materials!

A few years ago, we started collecting the ornaments that the White House Historical Society issues each year. They depict scenes from Christmases past and have histories of previous presidencies. They're lovely additions to our tree.

My father's side of my family is Jewish so I grew up celebrating both holidays. I bring out the menorah every year and serve up a hot meal of latkes!
