6 Ways To Get the Spring Back In Your Step

daffodil flowersSpring is coming! New Moms, time to come out of hiding! We all know that getting a shower and a nap help you to feel like a human being again in those early days of motherhood. Sometimes, you need a little more of a pick-me-up to help you get through a day in mamaland. Here are 6 tricks to make you feel just a little bit cuter, a little bit springier, a little bit more country/rock-n-roll than usual.

#1. Get a haircut. (A good one.)- Everything looks different under a good head of hair. Your clothes look better, you feel lighter, and suddenly your outlook is a bit brighter.

#2. Listen to some great music- Just when you feel like you’re at your wit’s end with a baby that won’t nap or let you put him down, you turn on your favorite tunes and have a baby dance party. Need more incentive? The blood runs through your veins, you get a little adrenaline going, and you get to sing!! Who could ask for anything more? Suddenly the day seems a little easier.

#3. Get some exercise- Strap that kid onto your back or front, or pop him/her in the stroller and take a walk. It’s March, get out and see stuff!! Crocuses are a-bloomin,’ Life is good! For my friends in Vermont, don’t worry, June is just around the corner.

#4. Arrange to meet up with a friend (with or without a baby)- Having an adult conversation at least once a week is key for me to survive this thing called parenting. Making plans also gives me something to look forward to in a never-ending world of nap-feed-play-change-repeat. Better yet, combine #3 and #4 for a walking date! If you walk your baby in the stroller, your chances for having a longer conversation improve greatly!

#5. Find ten minutes a day to do something you love, but don’t really allow yourself the time to do anymore. Read a magazine. Practice an instrument. Draw. Read a favorite blog. Do some yoga. Meditate. Garden. You may not get much of it done, but a little a day can add up, and hopefully at some point, you can give that activity more of your attention. Meanwhile, you won’t be completely giving it up.

#6. Buy a bunch of daffodils at the market. Put them in a pretty vase in the sunniest room in your house. Nothing like those perky yellow and white flowers to make you feel that things are looking up!
