A Bottle for a Breastfed Baby

Little Bean has been successfully breastfeeding for over 3 weeks now and I’m ecstatic! I was a little concerned breastfeeding wouldn’t be an option for me this time around. Five years ago I had a breast lift and was worried it would effect my flow. On top of that, Bean decided to come about 4 weeks early. It was a little shaky at first but now we have a good routine down and I’m getting more and more confident.

For the past week I’ve been pumping about once a day just to get a good supply in the freezer in case of emergencies. I am a big proponent of breastfeeding but I also like to have the ability to go out without the kids now and then. This requires breast milk and a baby prepared to eat from a bottle.

I settled on a simple started kit. This one to be exact.

I’m happy to say Little Bean had no problems eating from the the bottle. He sucked down 2 oz in no time. It gave me some confidence that I could leave him with a sitter if necessary.

I think I’ll give him a bottle of breastmilk every day or so just to mix it up a little. With my first I went back to work so he went between breast and bottle routinely. This time around I work for myself and have no plans for child care. So I guess I’ll have to be a bit more diligent with it.
