If you would have told me five years ago that I would be raising my family in New York City, I probably would have laughed at you in disbelief. Our lives were so comfortable living in the suburbs in Florida and I thought that is where we would raise our family. When my husband got the call the day that Harlan was born that he was offered a job in New York City, we decided to pack up our suburban lives and move to the place known as the concrete jungle.
Now that we’ve lived here for nearly three years, I can’t imagine raising my girls anywhere else. It’s all that they know and they love it. Avery was born here and will always consider New York City her home. Our day to day lives are slightly different than those living in the suburbs, but it’s really the only way that I know motherhood. Although some things might be more difficult raising girls in the city, it’s so much fun and exciting that I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Morning Sister Time 2 of 13
Every morning Avery wakes up and immediately goes to Harlan. Although they sleep in the same room, they want to be close to one another all the time. On this particular morning Avery crawled into Harlan's bed and they watched a show on the iPad together. It was so cute to see.
Let’s Play 3 of 13
We have very relaxing mornings in our apartment before heading out for the day. Avery has just started to enjoy playing dress up and will find Harlan's dress up toys, put them on, and go up to Harlan asking to play.
Still Playing 4 of 13
After Avery wakes up from her nap, there is still a little bit of time for playing before we head off to preschool.
Time for School 5 of 13
Around noon we head out for the first time to take Harlan to preschool. Rain or shine, we walk about 15 minutes to school. Avery enjoys being in the stroller and watching Harlan scoot in front of her. She yells, "Harlan!" if she gets too far away from us.
Nap Time 6 of 13
I try to run my errands after I drop Harlan off at school because it's so much easier to do things with only one little girl rather than two. Usually that time is also Avery's nap time. I will try to get her to nap in her stroller while I run my errands. Avery is not a stroller sleeper. She loves the comfort of her own crib. This is the only photo I have of Avery sleeping when we're on the move.
Lunch with Mom 7 of 13
Some days if Avery decides she doesn't want to nap, I'll take her for a date somewhere. Sometimes it's lunch with just the two of us. I try to take advantage of our alone time together as much as I can.
Quick Walk Around the City 8 of 13
On days that are gorgeous outside, I'll take Avery out of her stroller to just walk around on the sidewalks. She loves to run around and look at people and tell them hello.
Waiting for Harlan 9 of 13
She gets so excited when we wait outside of Harlan's school. She knows that she will be reunited with her soon and has such a big smile on her face.
Reunited 10 of 13
The joyful reunion between sisters. Harlan runs over to Avery and Avery squeals with delight.
Train Ride 11 of 13
During our weekends we love to take the train to a new part of the city so that we can explore. Avery loves riding the train and watching all of the people on it.
Swings 12 of 13
We are lucky to be surrounded by so many parks that have really great playgrounds. Avery loves to ride on the swings. Sometimes I'll take the girls after I pick Harlan up from school so that they can get some extra energy out before dinner.
Shake Shack 13 of 13
Dinner is either at home or at one of our many favorite restaurants around the city. Shake Shack is one of our absolute favorites. Great burgers, amazing cheese fries, and delicious shakes! Yum.
