A Day in the Life of a Two-Month-Old

Anybody else feeling tired?

Life with a baby is full of surprises, and it inevitably changes each week. Still, no time of life seems more routine—even if you’re not the one making the schedule.

Two months in, we’re up later than we’d like to be and waking in the early morning for feedings. Baby Girl is dozing in and out of sleep all day and I get to change a whole lot of diapers. Here’s a glance at what our routine looks like with a two-month-old baby:

  • 4:00 a.m.: Awake to eat 1 of 14
    4:00 a.m.: Awake to eat
    Good morning, sunshine. You look tired.
  • 4:30 a.m.: Change diaper (light on!) 2 of 14
    4:30 a.m.: Change diaper (light on!)
    Falls asleep, then wakes, and nurses again.
  • 5:10 a.m.: Back to sleep 3 of 14
    5:10 a.m.: Back to sleep
    Wakes again at 7:25 and nurses, but is too sleepy. Try again at 7:45, and then back to sleep.
  • 8:50 a.m.: Awake 4 of 14
    8:50 a.m.: Awake
    Get dressed, and change diaper too.
  • 9:30 a.m. Breakfast with big brother 5 of 14
    9:30 a.m. Breakfast with big brother
    Content to relax in her infant carrier for the time being.
  • 10:30 a.m. Hanging out 6 of 14
    10:30 a.m. Hanging out
    Lying on the couch while sick older brother watches Sesame Street. Then, sleeps in swing from 11-12:00 p.m.
  • 12:15 p.m.: Diaper change 7 of 14
    12:15 p.m.: Diaper change
    ....and another feeding.
  • 12:45 p.m.: Asleep again 8 of 14
    12:45 p.m.: Asleep again
    This time, on my bed.
  • 2:30 p.m: Lunch time with big brother 9 of 14
    2:30 p.m: Lunch time with big brother
    Wants to be held while Mom tries to coerce brother into eating something.
  • 3:15 Hungry again 10 of 14
    3:15 Hungry again
    And getting a little too much attention from her affectionate older brother, who also has a nasty cold.
  • 3:45 p.m.: Ready to run errands 11 of 14
    3:45 p.m.: Ready to run errands
    Falls asleep in car seat before we make it out of the door.
  • 5:30 p.m.: In the car 12 of 14
    5:30 p.m.: In the car
    Dozing in and out of sleep for a couple hours while we run errands and prepare dinner.
  • 6:30 p.m.: Awake again and hungry 13 of 14
    6:30 p.m.: Awake again and hungry
    Getting a little antsy before eating.
  • 8:00 p.m.: Hanging out with mom and dad 14 of 14
    8:00 p.m.: Hanging out with mom and dad
    Big brother is in bed, but Baby Girl stays awake until about 11:30 p.m., when she decides to start nodding off to sleep. Tummy trouble keeps her awake until about midnight when she's out like a light.
