Adventures in Baby-Food Making: Lentils

Bag of Lentils

Don’t make that face. I know, I know, lentils aren’t everyone’s favorite, BUT they are SO good for you!

Protein, Fiber, Iron, Potassium … do I need to keep going? Just check out their profile on World Healthiest Foods.

They are also super cheap and last forever in the pantry: a fabulous combo for this stock-happy mom.

Seriously, why aren’t I eating these things more? I’m hopping on the lentil bandwagon and taking baby with me. Here’s our latest adventure….

    They are a fabulously inexpensive pantry addition and wonderful baby food option!
  • 1 Cup of Lentils 2 of 15

    I made a cup which makes 4 adult-sized servings. It's amazing how much these babies will bulk up once cooked.
  • Cover with water 3 of 15
    Cover with water
    At least an inch over the lentils. Bring to a boil over high heat and then lower to a simmer and cover.
  • Simmer about 20 minutes 4 of 15

    Check the softness of the lentil. You can always add a bit more water if you think they are too hard, but since you're blending them, this isn't that much of an issue.
  • Puree 5 of 15

    The liquid left over from cooking should be enough; if not, add a splash more.
