It’s always nice to spend a long weekend with family. We planned on spending the entire weekend outside with friends and enjoying a quiet weekend in New York City, but the weather had other plans. The unofficial start of summer kicked off bringing back out the winter coats and umbrellas. It was a cold and wet start to the weekend. Exactly the opposite of what you have in mind when you think of summer weather.
Rather than spending all weekend outside, we bundled up inside watching movies and playing games. Monday turned out to be a great day and a perfect ending to our long weekend. After all of the rain and cold weather, we took advantage of the gorgeous weather and packed up everything for a picnic in Central Park. It’s one of our favorite things to do when the weather is gorgeous and Avery loves being outside to run around. Spending the day in the park with my family and friends was the perfect way to end the long weekend and kick off the summer.

Picnic City Style 2 of 7
This is how we do picnics in the city. Rather than packing the car like most families do in the suburbs, we literally pack our stroller with everything and take a walk to the park. Avery's stroller was fully packed this time and we were ready to spend the afternoon in the sun.
Watermelon 3 of 7
The perfect way to kick-off summer is with a nice juicy piece of watermelon. This was the first time that Avery has ever had watermelon. She loved to suck the juice out of it, but wasn't fond of the texture. So once she was finished with her watermelon juice she was finished with her watermelon.
First Snow Cone 4 of 7
These snow cones were my favorite treat to get from the ice cream man that would come through our neighborhood. I got one to enjoy on the hot afternoon and as soon as Avery laid eyes on it, she wanted it all. Rather that trying to bite the ice off, she started out with a little lick to see just how it tasted.

After the lick received her approval, it was time to dig in.
Mmmmmmm 6 of 7
If only this picture came with sound. After each bite of her snow cone, she kept saying, "mmmmmmmm." She's now officially found her favorite summer treat.
Mommy Love 7 of 7
Our afternoon consisted of lots and lots of cuddling. This girl was so sweet all afternoon. Every time that she would go and run around in the grass, she would come right back to me and lay on me like this with a huge grin on her face. This girl loves being outside.
