Yesterday the babbles announced their Top 100 Mom Blogs for 2011. Not 50 like last year, nay. Understandably. There’s much too much awesome on the internets these days to be rockin’ such a short-list.
Blogs by mommies. Teachers, musicians, CEO’s and home-schoolers. Chefs, jokers, rabble rousers and award winning journalists. Photographers, curators, advocates and designers. Artists, entrepreneurs, researchers and academics. All of them voices; voices to be heard – all of their artistry soaked up.
When I first began blogging in 2009 after the birth of my son, a quick search of the internets on Canadian mom blogs led me to Her Bad Mother by Catherine Conners. (Number 3 on the list). It was a discovery that would change my life. I identified with her strong, playful prose and honest real confessions. I dug her wit and banter. Still do. It’s of another story to share with you all that she is very much to do with why I am a writer with Babble today. For another time. What you may or may not know is that time has evolved so poetically that she is now Babble’s Director of Community and Social Good and Babble Voices blogger. I highly recommend.
I’ve never gone back. I ravenously devoured many other artful blogs, always drawn to those that are a mix of clever, humorous writing. Beautiful photography, all things DIY, foodie and parenting. Dark confessionals, real life stories and voices that stand-up and stand-out. That’s what I dig. What about you? Babble’s Top 100 Mom Blogs is a true collection of everything that is top-notch in the blogging world. They have found the gems, some of my very own colleagues on Baby’s First Year such as Monica Bielanko of The Girl Who, Arianne Segerman of To Think is To Create and Casey Mullins of Moosh in Indy. I have some updating to do on my blogroll yo.
There are many more coincidences as such. Babble has a way of recognizing talent when they see it and giving it an additional home. Who do you like?
