My husband and I drink socially, but have a general rule that if one of us is drinking the other doesn’t. And when I say drink, we are talking 1 drink. We’re totally fine and un-opinionated to if you drink around your baby, just don’t drink and for the love of God please don’t go scouting for free drinks when you have baby in tow!
What? Why would anyone take their baby with them to a bar to get their drink on? That’s the exact thing I asked when I saw a story about a mom who was arrested because she was leaving her 8-month-old son in the care of strangers AT A BAR. Crazy, right?
Here’s the low down on the mother who was arrested:
Last Friday in St. Lucie County, FL – police arrested Julie Marie Dengler, a 31-year-old woman after leaving her 8-month-old son in the care of strangers at a bar. Apparently she was in the bar, asking people to buy her drinks all while making patrons uncomfortable enough that the police were called.
She was at the bar for over 2 hours. The mom in question stated to police that her brother was coming to pick up the baby. But really, is a bar a place to bring a baby by yourself to get your drink on? I’d say negative and apparently the cops thought so as well.
In addition to charges of neglect, Julie was charged with disturbing the peace, as well as cocaine possession after deputies found cocaine residue in her purse.
Another story of a mom making BAD decisions. Remember the mom that got high and left her baby on top of the car? Yeah – maybe we shouldn’t mix drugs and alcohol with being a parent.
I don’t know what Julie is going through but I sincerely hope that she gets the help she needs. Our babies need us moms. We are their livelihood and their future depends of us.
