About the network: Madrona is a community with a relaxed, small-town feel on the west of Lake Washington in Seattle. Created in 2000 by some moms who met at the Madrona playfield with their kids, Madrona Moms has expanded to a listserv with more than 2,500 members and around 1,000 messages posted within their boards per month. Members can also meet in person during one of two monthly meetings, adding an off-line component to this group.
Why we love it: Volunteer moderators have been able to maintain Madrona Moms as a free service to its members for the last decade. Their mission is to support fellow parents in the Madrona area with open arms and open minds, and build on the “small-town feeling” of their neighborhood. Although located in the bustling Seattle area, Madrona residents embrace old-time values such as getting to know your neighbors, volunteering in the community, and helping newcomers feel welcome.
