Yesterday, while playing on a blanket on the floor, I would have bet anyone money that Kara was going to roll over for the first time.
In fact, I held my camera ready for more than thirty minutes, waiting for the exciting moment to happen. As you can see in the photo, she can easily roll onto her side, and those little arms wave wildly for toys placed near her.
While it seems as if she’ll definitely be rolling over soon, I know that sometimes those milestones that we might be positive are on the horizon, can take weeks or even months to be realized.
For instance, I was convinced that my son would be an early walker. I mean, I was walking at 9 months, and his dad was also walking before he was one. I was fully prepared to be chasing a 9 or 10-month-old baby around my house, but guess what? He walked on his own time, and that time didn’t come until a few weeks after his first birthday. Perfectly average.
I know that all children are different, and that you can never really tell when they will meet their little milestones. I also know from experience that meeting milestones early, right on schedule, or even late doesn’t always mean a whole lot in the long run.
That said, I’m so excited to see Kara roll over. I’ll be hovering, camera ready, until it happens — even if it takes another two months!
How old was your baby when he or she rolled over?
