All three of my kids started their flying experience at age 2 months, as soon as they had their shots and I was feeling up for it, we all jumped on a plane. It’s not like we were headed to some far off exotic location, we just like to go see my family in Southern Oregon as often as possible. Over the years I’ve found things to help with the chaos and craziness of traveling with kids and my all time favorite is a travel blanket with velcro loops for holding toys. I made a simple one out of a flannel receiving blanket with several velcro loops for attaching toys. What’s so great about this blanket is that all the toys stay attached which means your baby can play with a toy and if it’s dropped, you don’t have to go searching on the filthy airplane floor for the toy. With plenty of attachments, you baby is sure to be entertained with all the favorite toys attached. Here is the simple version I made that you can make too.
My friend Kathy liked the blanket so much that she made her own amped up version. I love the fabric she chose and all the ribbons and pockets for books. It’s the new and improved baby travel blanket and it’s still simple enouch even I can make one. If you are feeling crafty head over to Merriment Design for the step-by-step tutorial.
